These are letters sent to the
webmaster of this page from Robert Shaw
fans all over the world.
I too agree with you that Robert was much more than a lot of
people knew him. When i first saw him in Jaws i was totally in awe of him as an
actor. He had a tremendous screen presence. (I was only ten when Jaws came out.)
Over the years as i got older i found my self following his career and going to
see the films he was starring in. I very much enjoyed his ability as an actor.
When i rented the laser disk on the making of Jaws i was so sad that Robert was
no longer with us to be able to talk about his experience on the film 20 years
earlier. It was he who i most wanted to see. I find him to be a very chameleon
like actor. I never get the sense that there is any of "himself" in his roles.
Every time i see him he seems like a totally different character. (a credit to
his ability). My favorite parts he has played are Quint. (fabulously played!!
not one wrong moment. the sea salt of the sea salts Robert is Quint!!) and Doyle
Lonnegan. I love watching the steam come out of his ears at the card game.
Enjoyed your site and the funny comments, good humor!!
cheers Dave.
I love the movie Jaws. When I saw this movie I was about 7 years
old. When I saw Robert Shaw as Quint in the final when he was eaten by the shark
I thought, this is the actor I love. Now I'm 18 years old and I'm crazy about
this formidable and great actor. When I discovered on my school the website "a
tribute to Robert Shaw" I thought this is great because I can read about his
live and works. I was so impressed by the site that I wanted to mail the
creators for a compliment for their work on it.
Now I've got a few questions:
- is it possible to put some pictures of Robert Shaw on the site
of his
personal life, like high school pictures or normal pictures
of him (I mean,
like, no movie pictures of him...)?
PICTURES HAVE BEEN
ADDED AT THE PERSONAL PICS PAGE
IN THE PICTURES AREA
- are there
any children (from the 10) still alive nowadays and
if so, do they have a
function in the film business or as author?
Ian Shaw, Robert Shaw's son is the only child of his that I know of that is in the entertainment business. He is currently playing the character of Hazel on Watership Down. There will be some personal pics added to this web page soon. I've just been so busy with other things that it's taking longer than neccessary. Sorry.
Ian Shaw
Amazing how much he looks like
his father 'eh?
There is a rumor that Universal
Studios is working on another Jaws movie because of the success of the film Deep
Blue Sea. The effects in that film were done with CGI graphics and it was
decided that the new route of special effects would be the answer to make
another Jaws film stand out as better than the last couple have been. The rumor
states that the idea is to make a film about the young Matt Hooper or the young
Captain Quint. If they go with the latter I hope they cast Ian for the
role. Those of you who would like to see this film made should write to
Universal Studios and push them to get on it. If they'd like to see a picture of
Ian to help them decide they can come to this website to do so.
I hope that this site will be maintained ,so that I can sleep
peacefully and dream about this unique person that the world ever had in the
movie business.

Awesome web page. This is now one of my favorites. Shaw's been one of my favorite of the under-rated actors for along time now. His style was so unique and he was one of the most dedicated actors of his century. I've also read a couple of his novels and they are indeed well written and inspiring. Good job. Continue to alert the world that this was a great actor and let the legacy of Robert Shaw continue!
Steve
Wonderful tribute to a great actor who has longed been
missed.

I first discovered the powerful presence of the actor Robert Shaw when I was 9 in 1975 and saw Jaws. I was enthralled and fascinated by the sheer draw of this "bigger than life" image of a man I (still, to this day) considered my hero. I wanted so much to be an actor and would spend endless hours at the library finding out about Robert Shaw, the man, the actor, the author and the family man. I would stay up late just to catch one of his films on tv. I considered him to not only be my hero, but my teacher. I even read and liked his books.
When I learned that he died in 1978 (just a week before the world premier of Force 10 From Navarone was held at a theatre only blocks from my home) I was a very depressed and sad 12 yr old boy. I even remember crying. As I grew up my interests transitioned into filmmaking and today I am an Indie (albiet, a struggling one still) filmmaker.
For years I searched for a bio on Shaw and (until recently) didn't find one. I searched the web and found only film reviews. And then, one day, I discovered this site and was thrilled. I couldn't believe that there was a web site on Mr. Shaw and I was even more pleased to find that there REALLY are others like me out there who, not only appreciate Mr. Shaw, but were motivated and inspired by him. It brought such a slap-happy grin to my face as I maneuvered thru this site and saw the versatility and depth of the site.
I'm even teary eyed writing this, because this site is more than a tribute to a great actor: It's a testament to the impact and mark that Mr. Shaw left on the people of this world and what such an incredible inspiration he was (and still is). To the webmaster I extend my heartfelt gratitude for helping keep the legacy Mr. Shaw left us alive. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You.

I wanted to say how much I enjoyed your site. I always liked
Robert Shaw, he was always good and I was sad when he died. I had no idea he was
also a writer... Site like yours are really worthwhile. I am so sick of those
boring pretty boys and girl sites I much prefer character actors. That was an
interesting quote about character actors becoming stars,
hmmmm

Thank you for such a great tribute to my favorite actor. It was
the film Jaws which I think was one of his finest films. The world is certainly
a lonelier place without him, a man of many talents and yet he seems to have
been forgotten by many. Keep up the good work with the web page and thank you
again for keeping his name remembered.
Kind Regards,
Marilyn
Greetings,
Just wanted to let you know that I really
appreciate the site that you've created! I've searched for Robert Shaw web pages
in the past and have come up with little or nothing. I'm glad to see that others
appreciate his acting as much as I do. Keep up the good work! I've book marked
your page and will check back for more information in the future. Your work
hasn't gone unnoticed, it's much appreciated.
Thanks!
Roy
YOU JUST MADE MY DAY!!
I WAS FIFTEEN YEARS OLD WHEN ROBERT SHAW
DIED IN AUGUST OF 1978. HE WAS MY FAVORITE ACTOR BACK THEM AND HAS REMAINED
SO TO THIS DAY. TO ME HE WAS A GIFTED GENIUS. BOTH AS A WRITER AND AN ACTOR.
REST A SURE THAT I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN THIS MAN, AND YOU MADE ME VERY
HAPPY BY CREATING THIS PAGE ON HIM. I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED, IF SHAW HAD LIVED
HE WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BIGGER THAN CONNERY, HOPKINS,
FINNEY, REA, OR OLDMAN ARE TODAY. I HOPE YOUR SITE WILL EDUCATE A
NEW GENERATION ON A MAN THAT SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
THANKS AGAIN !!

That's a cool web page. Nicely done. Keep up the good
work.

You're so right. Robert Shaw was a gifted actor. I think it's a
shame that most of the world has never seen the film "The Caretaker." Did you
know by the way that Robert Shaw appeared in Pink Floyd's "The Wall" on a
television that's playing in one of the scenes. The film is "The Dam Busters."
There is also a line of Shaw's used from "Battle Of Britain" on The Wall cd. I
guess Roger Waters is a Robert Shaw fan too. Although "Swashbuckler" is one of
my favorite films my first experience watching Shaw's work was as the villain in
"From Russia With Love." I've been a fan of his ever since. And I'm glad you
made this web page. Thanks.
Steve.
Hello, I am a Robert Shaw fan since I saw Jaws for first time. But
"The Sting" was the best movie followed by "A Man For All Seasons". I liked the
pictures too.
Thanks for this tribute to Robert Shaw.

Thank you for this great tribute to Robert Shaw. I'm so glad that so many people feel as strongly as I do about the great talent and lasting legacy that Robert Shaw gave us.
Thanks a lot.
Sincerely,

This is the letter that made me the most proud:
My sister, Liz and I just had a look at your web page and thought
it was great. We loved all the photographs and comments. Good job. By the way,
we're actually his (Robert Shaw's) daughters and
don't get the John French book as it's full of lies.
Hannah
Hey,
It took me forever to find your site! I've been looking all over search engines to find any info/sites
on Robert Shaw and I finally came across yours =) I'm working on my own tribute site right now (when I will
open it, I have no idea.. probably in a month?)
Anyway, I was wondering if I can use some of your pictures from the 'personal'
section, oh and I have a pic to contribute! It's a picture from Jaws signed by him (it's attached to this e-mail).
ttyl,
Christine
Dear Webmaster.
Finally, finally I discovered a site about the greatest actor in my life - Robert Shaw.
So many great pictures of him I have never seen. Very thorough and rich on exiting
facts about this extraordanery man. As many fellow Shaw fans I discovered at a very
early age - the impact - and personel power that sparkled from him.
He had incredible screen precence - and I can only imagine how it must been working
with this man. I still to this day watch all his movies with great facination. To me,
Robert Shaw is - and always will be the greatest actor that has ever lived.
I remember when I was 9 years old in 1978, my mother and father picked me up after school - and told me: That they just read that Robert Shaw
had died - and they knew that he was my hero. I was devastated learning this. And
still to this day I wonder why destiny should be so cruel...
But fortunately his work as an actor and writer will never be forgotten.
I don't know if you are planning to have fan-art on your site, but I just wanted to
show you a painting I did of Shaw as Quint, and a page of a comic-spoof I am working on
of JAWS...
Thank you for making this great site, for the greatest actor.
Kindest regards

Cette acteur me manque. Que devient sa famille et ou est-il enterré?

When I was a 13 year old girl, my friends and I went to see a movie that had just opened at the local theater...Jaws.
I was absolutely captivated by Robert Shaw's portrayal of Quint and, I will freely admit, developed a huge crush on him (prefering to have pictures and posters of him on my walls instead of the standard teenage heartthrobs of the time).
Ironically, the day I learned of his untimely passing, my best friend (also a great Shaw admirer) had come over to watch The Sting on HBO. We did watch the movie, but I remember weeping the whole time. It was my first experience of losing someone that I cared about.
To this day he still holds a very special place in my heart.
Thank you so much for remembering him with this wonderful site.
